Agia Galini is a picturesque holiday village situated on the southern coast of Crete, in the province of Rethymno. Built in an amphitheatre-like layout at the foot of small hills, overlooking the sparkling Libyan Sea, Agia Galini combines authentic Cretan hospitality with modern tourist facilities, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.
Agia Galini is approximately 70–80 kilometres from Heraklion, with the journey taking 1 hour and 10–30 minutes by car, depending on the route you choose.

Agia Galini is a destination that retains its authentic Cretan character, despite the growth in tourism. The white houses cascade down in an amphitheatre-like formation towards the picturesque little harbour, creating a unique scene, particularly at sunset when the sunlight bathes the village in golden hues.

The little harbour of Agia Galini is the heart of village life. Well-organised and welcoming, it is home to traditional caiques and small boats. Along the waterfront, you’ll find traditional tavernas serving fresh fish and Cretan specialities, cafés, bars and shops selling local produce and souvenirs.

Agia Galini beach is sandy with fine, dark gravel and calm, clear waters. It is equipped with sun loungers and parasols, and is ideal for family relaxation and water sports. Its shelter from the wind makes it perfect for swimming almost all year round.

Boat Trips

One of the favourite activities is taking trips on the traditional little boats that set off from the small harbour. You can visit:

  • The Paximadia Islets: Two small uninhabited islets with crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming and spearfishing.
  • Hidden beaches: Such as Agioi Apostoloi, Agkalia and other secluded beaches accessible only by sea.

  • Archaeological Site of Phaistos: One of the most important Minoan palaces in Crete, just 30 minutes away.
  • Matala: The famous village with the hippie caves of the 1970s, an easy day trip.

Agia Galini offers a wide range of accommodation options:

  • Hotels: From budget to boutique options with sea views.
  • Guest rooms and flats: Ideal for families and those seeking greater independence.
