The beach’s most distinctive feature is precisely this: visitors can collect clay directly from the rocks, mix it with seawater to make a mud paste, and apply it to their face and body, enjoying a completely free and natural spa treatment right by the sea. The clay absorbs toxins, cleanses the pores and revitalises the skin. All you need to do is let it dry thoroughly in the sun and then rinse off in the crystal-clear waters waiting for you right in front of you.

The beach is sandy with pebbles and small rocks, with turquoise waters that slope gently into the sea and are ideal for swimming even in September. The surrounding landscape is rugged and striking: white and ochre rocks sculpted by the wind and the sea, vegetation clinging to the land, and an endless expanse of blue ahead. The beach is completely unspoilt — there are no sun loungers, parasols, beach bars or tourist facilities of any kind — which helps to preserve its wild, authentic character.
To get there, follow the road that climbs up from Sitia or Ierapetra, passes through Ziro and descends to Xerokampos. From there, the beach is just a few minutes’ walk away. Located approximately 47 km from Sitia, 69 km from Ierapetra and 103 km from Agios Nikolaos, Argilos remains far enough from the tourist centres to retain its tranquillity, yet accessible enough to make the trip worthwhile. It is advisable to bring water, food, sun cream and something to provide shade, as there is nothing in the area — and that, ultimately, is part of its charm.
